It’s now been 14 days since the West Highland Way Race, and I’m pleased to report that recovery is going well. After arriving home from Fort William, I spent most of the next two days asleep as I let my body recover. I had a week of total rest and tried to keep off my feet as much as possible; this wasn’t hard as I was absolutely exhausted and struggled to find the energy to do anything. After a week of total rest I finally began to feel less ‘jet-lagged’ and celebrated my temporary re-location to Edinburgh by joining a new Yoga studio and enjoying some deep stretching. I have been for a gentle run and it seems that everything is still in working order, but a little bit stiff around the edges. I will introduce more running this week and see how it goes; I certainly miss being out and about in my trainers in the lovely weather we’ve been having lately!
I will go into more detail about my recovery plans and future goals later in the week, but today I have some information about a new trail event which I’d like to share with you, as well as a discount code for RedWineRunner readers!
The Pentland Push
The Pentland Push is a event taking place in the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh on the 19th of September 2015, brought to you by Wild Fox Events who are behind such other popular events such as the Glencoe Marathon and the Etape Royal. There are three distances – 14 miles, 20 miles, and the classic 26.2 miles, and each distance can be ran, hiked or walked, solo or in a team. The routes are off-road, challenging and designed to ‘Push’ you to your limits, and there is also a 5 mile ‘Nudge’ event designed for families, that includes extra fun along the way such as Gladiator Duels and Bouncy Castles. The Push is a fantastic challenging event for teams of colleagues, friends and family to get involved with; as well as the stunning routes, throughout the day participants are rewarded with hot meals, refreshments, a fantastic mix of live bands, sports massage and more.
The event is being held by St Columba’s Hospice and is their largest annual event to raise much-needed funds for the Hospice which costs £8 million a year to run. The Hospice is a 30 bed inpatient unit which treats over 500 patients every year, and a nurse-led Day Hospice which provides holistic treatment and symptom management three days a week. There is also a Community Team of six palliative care nurses who complete 3,000 visits each year to patients in their homes. Participants taking part in the events are asked to raise £325 in sponsorship, and once you’re signed up, you’ll receive online support and resources to help you reach your fundraising target.
The Pentland Push has a great website where you can read up on everything you might like to know about the event – www.pentlandpush.com/. However, here’s what you can look forward to on the day:
- A hearty pre-event breakfast
- A buzzing warm up to get you psyched up for your day in the hills
- Fully stocked regular re-fuelling points en route
- Team photos at the finish line
- Finish line massages
- Fully stocked bar
- Live Music
- Excellent food including a veggie BBQ and a hog roast.
You can register online for your chosen event via the links on the website, and the team at St Columba’s Hospice have offered RedWineRunner readers a 20% discount using the code PUSH2015 when you enter online.
*I was contacted by St Columba’s Hospice about this event and was asked if I would share details of it on my blog and social channels to help spread awareness of the event. I was not paid or given any other kind of compensation for writing this post.
